Anti-Maori Whangarei District Councilor Vince Cocurullo, claims that the terms of reference for the Maori Committee are racist because it talks about Maori and hapu, then goes on to claim our district has “Indians and Chinese”.

While true that we have other ethnicities in our district, and the Maori Committee terms of reference talk about Maori and hapu.

We are not one people, nor should we try to be. We do not need to be. What we need to do is live and work together and play together as fellow human beings, recognising that we are a nation of a variety of races and customs.
